I thought that this was:
a) a spam message, pretending to be from my sister
b) a description of how those amazing magic erasers work
Instead it’s some pretty wild stuff about what happens when you run an electric current through salt water! Sortof blew my mind. I want some on my toothbrush.

That's a lot of plastic →
An interesting statistic from the WSJ article on NYC budget cuts: NYC estimates that it will earn $84 million a year on the 5 cent plastic bag tax. That implies 1.68 billion bags a year. Given the NYC population of 8.3 million people, each of us uses 3.9 plastic bags per week.
Stay at home parents and re-entering the workforce →
This is something that I’ve been thinking about, off and on, for the past few years. The cost of hiring childcare frightens me, but so does the challenge of getting a job after a couple years of being out of the workforce. I think that I shouldn’t use current cash flow to decide whether one parent should stay home. It’s a bit like getting a mortgage: it’s probably worth it...
Papa: I noticed a small coffee grinder on the counter, electric cord tightly wound around its spindle in the base, ground coffee residue in the basin.
Me: I'm sorry I forgot to clean that out and put it away. I usually take a dry paper cloth and wipe out the grinder.
Papa: That seemed like too much work, so I just stuffed a paper towel into the grinder, plugged it in and depressed the switch with a knife. Paper bits everywhere! It was glorious!

The Hungarian Pastry Shop
magicmolly:
A dark place that seems best to avoid. Not because its charm is forced, but because so many others insist upon its charm (and its strudel). Longhaired girls with intricate hosiery and serious faces, men with MCAT textbooks, tourists. Most of the food is known to be untasty. These are all reasons why the Hungarian Pastry Shop seems a place to avoid.
And it is, maybe, if you are a...

EVIL.
(via thebrowncoat)
LiveNation has an untested and expensive strategy and far too much debt. It will go bankrupt, and this deal might take TKTM with it. No synergy, just ego. Lots and lots of ego.
Starbucks to sell coffee and breakfast food combo... →
Corporate signalling in action: First Starbucks started offering sandwiches, encroaching on McDonalds’ market. McDonalds responded angrily, introducing premium coffee in over 7,000 locations. Starbucks tried to calm the situation, by pulling sandwiches from its stores. McDonalds was unmoved, and continued its attack with ads such as “Four bucks is dumb.” Since McDonalds...

Just a suggestion...
Mamma: When I was in Seattle I saw Macy's ads for Cuisinart food processors for $99.
Mamma: From what I know, that's a good price.
Mamma: You might want to see what you can get one for.
Me: (vaguely remembering that I had expressed interest in a food processor) I'll take a look.
