Up close and personal at Alice Tully for the Chamber Music Society’s Opening Night.
All wood panels in the hall were cut from a single Moabi tree log, shipped to Japan and sliced into pieces 1/500th of an inch thick. Thin enough to be translucent. The slices are backed with resin or plywood. A multitude of LED lights are arranged behind the wood panels, allowing the panels to be lit up, as in the photograph above. (NYT)
